Ben Tyson is an experienced keyboard player, bassist and composer, based in Edinburgh and performing regularly at weddings, festivals, pubs, clubs and community events across Scotland. With a broad repertoire spanning, pop, rock, jazz and other contemporary music, he is equally at home entertaining intimate audiences or larger live events. He can be found performing regularly around Edinburgh and East Lothian with the Klones, one of the area's longest-running and most loved cover bands, with the funk-jazz tribute to 90s and 00s dance classics, the Nipples of Venus and Zappa tribute Pygmy Twylyte. As an accompanist, he plays as Streete & Tyson and with Wee Kimmy. You can hear his original work with Nama Kuma, or if metal is your thing, Nassau. His solo original compositions and other bits and pieces can be heard on Soundcloud, as Beggar In Purple.
Alongside performing, Ben has extensive experience leading bands, mentoring musicians and supporting collaborative music-making. Passionate about the social value of music, he is keen to develop community-based creative projects that encourage participation, confidence and connection through music.
His particular interests include songwriting, composition, band development and creative collaboration. He enjoys helping people of all ages and levels of skill and experience explore their own musical ideas, whether working with young people, community groups or adult musicians, and is comfortable supporting both group sessions and one-to-one creative mentoring.
